What is Surcharging

Surcharging adds a small fee to credit card payments to help offset processing costs. When done correctly, it can reduce what your practice pays.

Best Card helps you evaluate the fit and set everything up the right way, from devices to patient communication.

  • Offset credit card processing costs
  • Debit cards stay fee-free for patients
  • Clear, compliant surcharge setup
  • No hidden pricing or padded fees

How It Works

Surcharging notifications must be clearly displayed at the business's point of entry, all point of sale, and on the receipts.

If you surcharge one card brand you must surcharge all card brands.

Surcharge pricing requires daily fee withdrawals, rather than monthly, which can make balancing difficult.

What to Watch For with “Zero Cost” Offer

Some processors advertise “free” equipment or “zero cost” processing, but often build those costs into higher fees, non-compliant setups, or long-term contracts.

Best Card focuses on doing it right:

  • Transparent pricing structure
  • Surcharge aligned to actual costs (not padded margins)
  • Clear guidance on patient experience and compliance

*Surcharging available in all states except Massachusetts , Connecticut, and Oklahoma
